Thalay La Trek
The Thalay La trek, connecting Khaplu and Shigar, is one of the easiest yet most breathtaking treks in Baltistan, nestled in the foothills of the Karakoram. This short trek meanders through the lush, picturesque Khaplu and Shigar Valleys, renowned for their vibrant fruit orchards and alpine flowers in summer. The trail follows glacial streams, serene pastures, and shepherd paths, offering mesmerizing views of the valleys and glimpses of local life—women working in fields, farmers tending livestock, and children enjoying the sunny days.
Thalay Valley, located in Ghanche, Gilgit-Baltistan, near the Shyok River, is abundant in natural resources, including pastures, water, wildlife, and minerals. Divided into Upper and Lower Thalay, it is particularly famous for Thalay Broq, a stunning tourist destination. At 4,572 meters, Thalay La, along with the nearby Shingkang Pass at 5,100 meters, attracts adventurers from around the globe. The valley serves as a gateway to central Karakoram climbing peaks, blending natural beauty with a rich cultural experience.
