Shatung Peak Expedition
Deosai, often called the "Land of Giants," is the world's second-highest plateau, perched at a remarkable altitude of 4,100 meters and spanning 3,000 square kilometers. Known locally in Balti as "Bhear Sa," meaning "land of flowers," this breathtaking region comes alive between mid-June and mid-September, showcasing over 340 species of vibrant wildflowers that blanket its vast expanse.
Renowned for its diverse flora and fauna, Deosai serves as a sanctuary for the critically endangered Himalayan brown bear. Once on the brink of extinction, conservation efforts have helped protect this iconic species, with the southern part of Deosai now serving as its primary habitat. In addition to the bears, the plateau is home to a rich array of wildlife, including the Himalayan ibex, red fox, golden marmot, snow leopard, and wolf, alongside over 125 species of resident and migratory birds. This unique ecosystem is a striking testament to nature's ability to thrive in high-altitude environments.
