Gashabrum – II
Gasherbrum II, the 13th highest mountain globally, is situated near K2 and Broad Peak within the Karakoram Mountain range in Pakistan. Known for being the easiest and safest of the 8,000-meter peaks in the Karakoram, it forms part of the Gasherbrum massif, sharing a base camp with its neighboring peaks for mountaineers wishing to summit Gasherbrum I and II. An additional royalty fee is required.
For many years, Chogori Expeditions has facilitated expeditions to Gasherbrum II, offering trips that last between 50-60 days. Their expeditions prioritize safety, acclimatization, and enjoyment, ensuring a well-rounded experience in the heart of the Karakoram.
Chogori Expeditions provides logistical support for private and solo climbers, whether for the base camp or beyond. The length of the expedition can be adjusted depending on individual preferences, weather conditions, and prior climbing experience. While a standard itinerary is available, it can also be customized by a travel advisor to suit the specific needs of participants.
The Gasherbrum II expedition commences in Islamabad, where climbers are greeted by a representative at the international airport and taken to a hotel for rest. A briefing about the upcoming expedition is held over dinner. The following day, participants take a scenic 45-minute flight to Skardu, offering views of Nanga Parbat, K2, and other stunning peaks of the Himalayan and Karakoram ranges. Upon arrival in Skardu, climbers have time to prepare for the expedition.
After two days in Skardu, the journey continues along the Indus, Shigar, and Braldu rivers to Askoli, the last village before entering the Karakoram wilderness. The first night is spent camping under the stars, followed by the start of the trek the next morning. The route passes through the Braldu gorge and along the Baltoro glacier, leading to Concordia. Known as the heart of the Karakoram, Concordia offers breathtaking views of K2, Broad Peak, and other towering mountains.
Gasherbrum II base camp is located near the junction of the Godwin-Austen and Baltoro glaciers and is a 5–6-hour trek from Concordia. The climbing portion of the expedition begins from this point, with climbers camping at the base for the duration of the ascent. A team of experienced guides, chefs, and support staff will accompany climbers throughout their stay. After the summit, the return journey follows the same itinerary back to Islamabad.
Alternatively, climbers can opt for a return route via the 5,600-meter Gondogoro La and the scenic Hushe Valley, eventually returning to Skardu. After a night in Skardu, participants fly back to Islamabad, weather permitting, and spend one final night before being transferred to the airport for their return home.
With over four decades of experience, Chogori Expeditions confidently offers a seamless and successful Gasherbrum II expedition, supported by their skilled and knowledgeable team.
